ISLAM / Emcee & Producer
Bio

Artist Bio: ISLAM

Beats and rhymes are essentially the essence of Hip-Hop, and it is definitely captured in the new release from Hip-Hop artist ISLAM, entitled, “Sword of ISLAM”. Veteran emcee ISLAM which stands for Intelligent, Supreme, Lyricist, Analyzing, Mathematics has been making music as a solo artist in the Richmond, VA Hip-Hop scene for 10 years since the debut of his underground cult classic, “Shine & Rule” in 1999. Prior to this he was well known in underground circles for his production skills for various artists in the area.

ISLAM is and has not only been respected for his production abilities, but is known for his energetic live shows in VA, like the now defunct “Word of Mouth” in Norfolk VA.

ISLAM took a hiatus from the music scene for a spiritual journey, but has returned with a sharper sword on his latest release, “Sword of Islam”. The album is 10 songs strong with no special appearances. It is classic east-coast boom-bap, with signature heavy kick drum and crackling snare, and includes delicious samples that range from soul to jazz and back. The new album sustains the artist’s namesake of ISLAM by not using vulgar language, specially the “N” word and lyrics that are sexually degrading to women.

To accompany ISLAM’s lyrical lessons, “Sword of ISLAM” includes vocal samples of comedic geniuses Dave Chapelle and Richard Pryor, which are cleverly edited to provide social commentary to ISLAM’s 2nd LP. As expected, ISLAM’s latest release is conscious and responsible, but still manages to maintain an honest Hip Hop edge, while not being preachy. This album is definitely ear candy for those who miss the 2nd golden age of Hip-Hop, and will prove to be another timeless classic
